As new session is round the corner, schools of Chandigarh are gearing up for entry-level admissions. Few of the schools who have already started with the process opted for draw of lots for the same, raising the concerns of the parents.
For 160 seats of UKG, St. John's High School received around 700 application forms for the session 2016-17.
Not lagging behind in the league was Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector 26, yet another renowned school of the city that conducted draw of lots for the admission process. With 1,100 applications received against the 160 seats, the battle’s pretty tough as half of them are reserved under quotas and the rest half is left for the general.
A leading newspaper has talked about Harvinder Kaur, a resident of Chandigarh applied in two schools for both her granddaughters, while one made it to the list of Sacred Heart Convent School, she had to rush to Carmel Convent School to check if the other one has secured a place.
Vinty Goyal was ecstatic to learn that her younger one will also study in the same school as her sibling. Relaxed and happy, she said, “My elder daughter is in Sacred Heart Convent School and I wanted my younger one to get admission in the same school. We were tense because admission is not guaranteed even under the sibling quota. But fortunately my daughter got through.”
Carmel Convent School that has 120 seats against which it had received 975 applications. Out of 120, 45 are in general category, while the rest 75 are in reserved category.
