Self-defense is nature’s eldest law - John Dryden
Safety of girls is the most burning issue these days, nowhere is a girl safe. What better can suit girls at this hour other than self-defense!  Yes, self-defense has become, without any doubt, the topmost in the priority queue. And understanding the need of the hour, CBSE affiliated schools will now coach girls on ‘self-defense’.
Recently, all the CBSE affiliated schools have been asked to teach ‘self-defense’ to girls of class 1 to 10 considering the current mishaps that have enhanced the need for security of girls. Additionally, schools have been asked to provide a full week’s training on self-defense twice a year and assign one period dedicated to self-defense activities for girls. Â
CBSE, while talking to all the affiliated schools, said, "It is earnestly hoped that all schools will follow these directives as these measures would lead to increased self-confidence and sense of safety in girl students."
Self-defense training will not only prove to be a means to empower girls, but it will also encourage them to act spontaneously and immediately whenever they face any kind of violence or abuse. Besides being highly desirable training for girls, self-defense is the ‘urgent need’ for the amelioration of girls as well as society. Parents too have now come to realize that seeking help from the government and police would not always help. When such mishaps strike, self-defense and presence of mind help the best.
"These strategies cultivate in individuals the ability to remain alert yet calm at all times. Therefore, self-defense training will assist girl students to become more aware of their surroundings and to not feel helpless in any situation," says CBSE as reported by a leading news daily.
CBSE schools will also be provided support from nearby Police Stations and local expert for imparting self-defense training to girls. The board has also suggested the trainers and schools to promote ‘non-contact-sports’ for girls in school premises.
