Computer science engineer is the village sarpanch now; focus on girl education

Hisar | January 20, 2016

What pops up in your mind when you first hear of someone with engineering degree in computer science? A job in MNC ? A good package? … But there are few who are different and don’t fit in your perception and this 22YO girl is one among them.

Pooja who returned home after completing her engineering in Computer Science at Bahal in Bhiwani district of Haryana is all set to accept the challenge of being the village sarpanch. in Shekhpura.

This young and educated girl has dreams to bring about a change in society, starting from her village, Shekhpura, where she stood victorious defeating contender, Sandeep by 238 votes.

Pooja, the daughter of Bhagwan Dass, Hisar DSP (Headquarters), was quite excited and had started building ambitions as soon as her family her broke the news of her name being considered for the post of village sarpanch.
Talking to the media, she said, “I never thought that I will become the sarpanch of the village just after completing my studies. I am really happy that villagers gave me a chance. I will try my best to work for the welfare of the village.”

While her elated father hopes her daughter will work for the welfare of all the 36 communities, she has different plans and wants to consider government schools as her priority.

Bhagwan Dass, Pooja’s father said, “Although I am unable to give enough time to my family, I am sure Pooja will work for the ‘chhattis biradari’ (36 communities) of the village.”

“Equipping government schools in village with new technology will be my first priority. I will convince every girl in the village to go to school,” says Pooja.
